Hello! I’m Venera, Assistant Professor of anthropology at CUHK. I have lived and worked in Russia, India, the United States, and Hong Kong, and these experiences have made me fascinated with migration as a subjective and transformative process that affects our identity, notions of home, family responsibilities, views on our ethnicity and culture, as well as future plans and aspirations. As a person who has lived in Hong Kong for more than 8 years, I have witnessed how the city serves as a space where questions of belonging, privilege, and difference are negotiated in everyday life.

Hello! I’m Aashia, growing up in Hong Kong with a multicultural background, I'm interested in the dynamics of identity and belonging within contexts influenced by migration and diversity. With a training in sociology, my research interest centers on the lived experiences of individuals from varied backgrounds, on how these individuals navigate their presence in a community, exploring themes of visibility, understanding, and the nuances of recognition and misrecognition.

Hello, I am Sursharan Kaur, a Year 2 Government and Public Administration student at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, currently diving deep into the lives and political voices of Hong Kong’s ethnic minorities. Having grown up in the bustling heart of this city—my childhood summers spent back home in India, yet my entire education shaped by Hong Kong’s classrooms and streets—I’ve always lived between worlds, learning early how identity, belonging, and power quietly intertwine. I’m the kind of person who listens intently, asks bold questions with a gentle smile, and believes that every story we honour can shift the way we build a more inclusive tomorrow.

Hello! I’m Killian (Kailing), an undergraduate Anthropology student at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Shaped by my own and my family’s migration journey, I am deeply interested in diasporic communities, identity formation, and gender issues. Having grown up between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, I’m particularly curious about how people navigate belonging, construct their identities, and negotiate gender expectations in cross-boundary contexts.

Hello! I am a visual and performance anthropologist interested in migration and ritual. I live in Kowloon since 2013, where I have engaged the local community in participatory research. I have partnered with elderly, ethnic minority and neurodivergent residents in artistic projects celebrating diversity in Hong Kong.

I’m J Wu, a visual artist and ethnographic researcher. My visual practice sits between illustration, live portraits, art workshops, and comics, with my recent comic work advocating for Hong Kong migrant domestic workers fighting for dignified labor and a living wage. My prior ethnography explored identity and mobility among Shenzhen international school alumni, unpacking gaps in class, citizenship and opportunity.
Translate for Her
Founded in 2014, Translate for Her (TheM) is a Non-Profit Organisation jointly established by a group of ethnic minority women and Hong Kong Chinese. By building a mutual support platform among Chinese and ethnic minority women in Hong Kong, we aim to facilitate cross-cultural collaborations and promote gender equality.
Thy Lab
Thy Lab was Founded in 2013, Thy Lab is a community-rooted cultural space in Hong Kong focused on visual research, participatory filmmaking, performance art, education, and community-based cultural exchange. Through accessible, participatory projects, Thy Lab creates platforms for local residents, artists, filmmakers, and audiences to share creative work, exchange ideas, and build connections through culture.

WEDO Global
WEDO GLOBAL is a social enterprise advocating multicultural education, established in 2011. It plans and arranges various multicultural workshops, local walking tours, and overseas experiential tours to offer participants opportunities to interact with people from different cultural backgrounds. Through this process, participants learn, reflect on their own culture, and gain inspiration, which enhances their cultural sensitivity and global vision.
